Using Letterhead

There is electronic letterhead available for your use at the Sharepoint website. You need your ilstu ulid/pw to login. Also, here are some quick instructions I wrote up for creating a second/blank page with the letterhead. These instructions are for using Word 2007 or 2008 (on a Mac). I haven’t tried it with other versions of Word.

  1. Open the e-letterhead in Word
  2. Go into “Publishing Layout View”.
  3. Then show the Navigation (it’s a button at the top, on my Mac).
  4. Once you can see the e-letterhead template in the left (navigation) pane, right-click on it and choose New Master. It will create a blank, second page.
  5. You can click on the bottom of the text box on the first page (on the handle, just like you do in InDesign) and place leftover text onto the new page. Or just create a new textbox that you can type in.

Note that you can’t duplicate the footer because we don’t have access to it. I also haven’t figured out how to make page numbers, but I doubt that page numbers are important on a stapled, two-page cover letter. You can print these documents out in color on the color printer in STV 408. Please don’t abuse the color printer because Jim is allowing y’all to use it without paying the materials fee.
